Inside the project "FOCUSIS", a secondment at FEMTO-ST, from the CNRS in Besançon, France, was planned to be developed in between the outgoing and return phase of the project. This part has been finished successfully and now, the remaining 12 months of the project are about to start at the Institute of Optics of the Spanish National Research Council, in Madrid, Spain.
A presentation on the amorphization of silicon using femtosecond laser pulses was presented in the seminars organized by the Student Chapter present at FEMTO-ST. During the talks, bachelor, master and PhD students and researchers shared a day of presentations where the central focus was the use of pulsed lasers in the ultrashort regime. In this interview, we have a discussion about the formation of mirage effects known as 'fata morgana', produced when the air layers close to the surface of the water present a temperature gradient that slightly change the refractive index of air, offering the light a more efficient path to propagate, producing virtual images of objects in the horizon.
