The Journal of Laser and Applications from the Laser Institute of America has granted one of my papers the best paper award of 2022, within the Crystal Prize, regarding a publication on the status of Laser Induced Periodic Surface Structures (LIPSS) on different practical applications in the fields of optics, medicine, wetting and tribology among others. The keynote could be checked out here. I am grateful with my former collegues at BAM in Berlin whith whom this publication was possible.

The last COLA conference, held in a hybrid format (presentation was virtual) in Matsue, Japan, was the proper forum for the presentation entitled "UV laser microprocessing of silicon by optically-trapped dielectric microlenses" where the latest results on the project "FOCUSIS" where presented.

In the figure, a sketch of the experimental system is presented, where an optically trapped microlens is used as a second focusing lens to produce modifications on silicon. Lines are produced uniformly by the overlap of consecutive laser pulses and width is modulated by the interdistance microlens-substrate.

The last part of the project "FOCUSIS", has officially started at the Institute of Optics from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). Here, it is expected that the knowledge acquired from the outgoing phase of the project joins together with the experience on laser processing materials from the Laser Processing Group.

During this phase, which will last 12 months, irradiation experiments with shaped femtosecond beams will be performed on different materials. The spatial shaping will be performed by a spatial light modulator that will allows the customisation of the profile used for the irradiations. In the figure, a specific phase map is loaded into the system and at the focal plane, the letter "GLP CSIC" were imprinted on a substrate of Silicon.
